We are proud to announce that Next Tech Girls has been named as a finalist in the E-skills Initiative of the Year category at the prestigious Women in IT Awards with the winner being announced on 31st January 2018.
It’s a testament to the hard work that everyone on the team has put into the project and the real change that we’re making. We have made a commitment to place 5,000 girls into work experience placements by 2020 and in our first year we placed 152 girls into tech work experience placements, engaged 129 London schools and supported 72 companies in hosting work experience students including the Department for Work and Pensions, Microsoft, Vodafone, Expedia, WorldFirst, Virgin Money, Metail and Wayra.
Our students have won numerous prizes in their placements, and we’ve even heard from employers who said that they would be happy to keep them indefinitely.
Our Wall of Inspiration now has more than 170 profiles, featuring female role models in tech from across a wide range of industries and disciplines. All of this goes to prove just how much of an appetite there is for a project of this type.
